Different sources of lexical bias and overt self-corrections

چکیده

In this paper it is argued, on the basis of a quantitative analysis of spontaneous speech errors and their corrections in Dutch, that the mechanism leading to lexical bias in speech errors cannot be same as that leading to overt self-corrections. Although spontaneous speech errors show a strong lexical bias, overt self-corrections do not. Lexical bias strongly increases with dissimilarity between target phoneme and source phoneme No such effect is found in overt selfcorrections. Several possible sources of these differences are discussed.

Lexical bias revisited: Detecting, rejecting and repairing speech errors in inner speech

This paper confirms and exploits the observation that early overt self-interruptions and repairs of phonological speech errors very likely are reactions to inner speech, not to overt speech. In an experiment eliciting word–word and nonword–nonword phonological spoonerisms it is found that self-interruptions and repairs come in two classes, one class of reactions to inner speech, another with re...

Inner speech slips exhibit lexical bias, but not the phonemic similarity effect.

Inner speech, that little voice that people often hear inside their heads while thinking, is a form of mental imagery. The properties of inner speech errors can be used to investigate the nature of inner speech, just as overt slips are informative about overt speech production. Overt slips tend to create words (lexical bias) and involve similar exchanging phonemes (phonemic similarity effect). ...
